Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do you accept insurance or other forms of payment?
I do not accept third-party payment from commercial insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation, or motor vehicle/accident-related claims. All services are paid at the time of care. Accepted forms of payment include cash, checks, and all major credit cards. After each visit, you will receive a superbill listing the CPT codes for the services provided. This allows you to submit a claim to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Common codes include: * 97162 – Physical therapy evaluation, moderate complexity * 97140 – Manual therapy techniques * 97112 – Neuromuscular re-education * 97530 – Therapeutic activities * 97110 – Therapeutic exercises
Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan. Providing a superbill does not guarantee payment from your insurance. If you would like to check your benefits, contact your insurance company before your appointment and ask whether these CPT codes are eligible for out-of-network physical or pelvic therapy reimbursement.
Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
No referral is required. In most states, including Maryland, patients can access physical therapy services directly without a physician’s order. This includes pelvic physical therapy and treatment for children. Direct access allows you to begin evaluation and care promptly. Your therapist will coordinate with your healthcare providers as needed to ensure safe and integrated care.
What should I wear to the appointment?
Wear clothing that is comfortable and allows easy movement. Avoid jeans, as they can be restrictive. For most treatments, care is provided over your clothing. For internal pelvic therapy, you will undress from the waist down, and a blanket will be provided for full coverage and privacy throughout the session.
How long are visits?
The complimentary phone consultation is 15 minutes. The first in-person visit lasts approximately 90 minutes to allow for a thorough evaluation and treatment plan. Subsequent visits are typically 60 minutes, with an option for 90-minute sessions if preferred.
Is the treatment painful?
All care is 100% hands-on and gentle. Techniques are designed to release restrictions, improve function, and support the body’s natural healing without discomfort.
Will I feel discomfort after treatment?
Manual therapy is generally safe. Some patients may experience mild soreness, temporary fatigue, or slight changes in muscle tension following a session. Serious side effects are rare, and every treatment is adapted to your individual needs.
How soon will I see results?
Results vary depending on the complexity and chronicity of your condition. Many patients notice improved function and reduced tension after the first session, but optimal outcomes often require multiple visits.
What should I expect for internal pelvic assessment and treatment?
Internal pelvic assessments and treatments are performed with full consent, comfort, and privacy. You will be fully covered with a blanket, exposing only the area being treated. The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and uses a single-use glove and lubrication as needed. Before treatment, your therapist will explain the process, answer any questions, and obtain your written consent. You may pause or stop treatment at any time.
Can pelvic physical therapy help with IVF preparation?
Yes. Pelvic physical therapy is sometimes used as a supportive approach for individuals preparing for IVF, particularly for those with a history of pelvic pain, prior surgery, endometriosis, adhesions, or unexplained infertility. Research suggests that site-specific manual physical therapy may help improve pelvic and abdominal tissue mobility, optimize circulation, and reduce restrictions that can influence pelvic organ function. A ten-year retrospective study published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine reported improved pregnancy outcomes in women with infertility who received manual physical therapy. Additional studies have shown higher pregnancy rates in women undergoing IVF following targeted manual therapy addressing pelvic and abdominal restrictions. Pelvic physical therapy does not replace medical fertility treatment, but it may be used alongside IVF care to support pelvic health and optimize the physical environment prior to treatment. Care is always individualized and guided by each patient’s medical history and fertility plan. How soon after delivery can I start pelvic physical therapy?
For internal vaginal treatment, you’ll need to wait at least 6 weeks after getting clearance from your doctor. However, we can begin treating your back, pelvis, and other areas as soon as you’re home from the hospital. Virtual care if highly beneficial during the initial few weeks.
Is it safe to bring my newborn?
Absolutely. Many newborns—whether full-term or premature—experience digestive discomfort, gas, colic, or difficulty with bowel movements. Some may also develop torticollis, tight neck muscles, or tension from the birthing process. Gentle manual and pelvic therapy can help relieve muscle and fascial tension, support digestion, improve bowel comfort, and promote better sleep. These techniques are safe, non-invasive, and tailored to your baby’s needs, helping your little one feel more comfortable and at ease.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
Bring any relevant medical records, imaging, or a list of medications. For newborns or children, bring items to keep them comfortable, such as favorite binky or toy.
Is manual therapy safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Techniques are adapted for prenatal care to ensure comfort and safety while addressing musculoskeletal pain, pelvic tension, and postural changes.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first session will include a detailed assessment of your body, a discussion of your symptoms and history, and a hands-on evaluation. Based on this, together a personalized treatment plan will be created.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends. The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, goals, and response to treatment. During your first visit, we’ll create an individualized plan to help you achieve the best possible results.
What conditions do you treat?
I treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, musculoskeletal injuries, post-surgical recovery, pelvic floor concerns, prenatal and postpartum care, digestive or gastrointestinal discomfort and sleep difficulties. Please refer to "conditions treated" list for more detail. Each treatment plan is tailored to address the root causes and support the body’s overall function.
What is your cancellation policy?
All cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Appointments canceled or missed with less than 24 hours’ notice, or no-shows, will be charged the full session fee. Exceptions for illness will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may require documentation if necessary.
